From BibleProject to NewCulture, every ending is a new beginning!

After four years at BibleProject, I'm stepping out on my own to build websites, manage SEO, and run Google Ad Grants for mission-driven businesses, nonprofits, and churches.

In 2022, I remember halfheartedly scrolling job listings, not quite sure what I was looking for.

I stumbled on a product management role at BibleProject, and it checked all the boxes: the kind of mission-driven work I love, the type of teams I'd spent most of my career working with. I hit apply, drafted a cover letter, and within a week my future bosses, Jon Dobson & Joel Worrall reached out. But instead of talking about the role, they pitched a brand-new one: modernizing BibleProject's platform architecture and bringing what I had learned building large-scale systems for churches and nonprofits to their mission.

I joined in June 2022, and the last four years have focused on turning that initial idea into a functioning reality and watching a small team pull off work I'm genuinely proud of.

BibleProject is amazing. Can I brag on them for a bit? Not only do they put out great, creative videos and accessible scholarship, but the caliber of people on the team and their bar for quality is nothing short of astounding. And their leadership team is what any nonprofit should aspire to.

I remember I was at a company retreat in the Oregon mountains just a few months after I was hired. Somehow I ended up next to Tim Mackie overlooking the Columbia River Gorge, talking about fatherhood, raising kids, and of course the Bible. It was one of those pinch yourself moments because you can't believe they're happening. But what I realized during that trip and the many other flights to Portland that followed, is how humble and down to earth everyone was. No egos—just lots of people on a mission to help lots of people experience the Bible as a unified story that leads to Jesus.

The Platform Team will always hold a special place in my heart. We had a lot of eyes on our work and a lot of pressure to serve people through our backend systems with reliable uptime. We covered a wide range of systems, but you all were incredibly talented and helped improve every responsibility that landed on our plate. Tyler Brown, Matt Brown, Aron Zalewski, David Carroll, Josiah DePaoli, Adam Braly, just to name a few, I hope our paths cross again in the future—it’s been a joy working with you!

The people at BibleProject are the real deal, and I'll always look back on this season with fond memories and disbelief that I had an opportunity to work with some incredible humans. And maybe one of these days I'll live the dream of running an organic farm on a hundred acres alongside Rudy Belliani.

However, as most things in life go, every ending is a new beginning. For the last year or so, I've felt a pull from the Lord toward a new season. I wrestled with it, honestly, for a long time because I hate leaving a good thing. August wrapped up my time at BibleProject, and I've fully stepped into launching my own business: @NewCulture.

Here's what I kept noticing along the way. Almost every day, I meet people doing amazing things, or carrying ideas they'd love to see become reality. What they don't have is the technical knowledge to get it built, or the ability to get it in front of the right people. And I found myself having those conversations anyway, in everyday life: how to build a website that attracts the right people, how to take a seed of an idea and grow it into something that would bear fruit.

I love working with people in collaborative ways to see ideas become reality and help their work get discovered. That's NewCulture. In practice, that looks like websites built to be found, SEO that reaches the right people, Google Ad Grants for nonprofits, and hands-on technical leadership when you need someone who's built it before. Whether you're a small business building something that solves a problem, a nonprofit carrying a mission, or a church serving your community—I love partnering with mission-driven people to take the work they're already doing to the next level.

So here's my ask.

If you, or someone you know, has an idea you want to launch and need a partner to get it off the ground, or a system that you want to optimize, I've spent 20+ years in this industry and I'd love to talk.

Reach out. Check out www.newculture.co. And if someone came to mind while you read this, forward it to them.

Here's to the next season! 🥂
