Sticker charts work for about a week. Then they disappear. So does the motivation.
If you've ever felt like a broken record, repeating the same instructions every single day, I've been there. With five kids, some days I'm still there.
How it started
We homeschool, and one of the cornerstones of how we do it is Charlotte Mason's idea of habit training. Her insight was quietly radical: the goal isn't compliance. It's character.
We loved that. But we kept running into the same wall. Kids, like all of us, don't naturally gravitate toward doing the right thing. We needed a way to connect good habits to something real.
The answer came from Deuteronomy 30. Moses sets two paths in front of Israel: life and blessing, or the natural consequence of walking away. "Choose life." Not rewards as bribery. Not consequences as punishment. Just the lived experience that following good instruction leads somewhere good.
So one weekend morning, with the usual flurry of family life swirling around me, I sat down at my computer and started to build. Within a few hours there was a working prototype. Within the first week, habits we had tried and failed to establish for months started to stick.
What it does
Our Family Habits gives your family shared routines, shared rewards and real visibility, so kids can own their rhythms instead of waiting to be told. It works for homeschool families, blended families and traditional families alike.
Setup takes about ten minutes, and you can start free.
What's one habit you'd love to see stick in your home this month? Plant that one first.
