The whole world has forgotten God

We spend our time erecting statues and worshipping digital gods to stave off the lonely void that fills our souls. Slowly, we embrace the madness, distancing ourselves from the memories of our childhood that taught us ancient stories of the good way.  Enamored by the lights, attention, and glittering images, we carry on our merry ways, forgetting the giver.

What have you become oh land of liberty? Rejecting the one who gave you freedom. Trading your birthright for a melting pot of ideas and diversity.  Giving up your roots for the belief of the hour—tossed around by fashionable trends promoted by our favorite idols. Exchanging wonder and mystery for knowledge and certainty, the serpent is perpetually crafty—convincing us to bare our soft skin and willingly beg him to sink his talons in.

Oh that you would simply believe.

Ignoring the lies dripping with sincerity from the mouths of our deconstruction experts.

Rejecting the enticing allure of the sacred goddess temples of our culture.

Sacrificing your need for post-modern enlightenment in favor of time-tested tradition.

Oh that you would simply trust.

Giving up the need to control every outcome.

Believing once again that your dad knows what’s best.

Embracing the words whispering to your heart.

Oh that you would simply love.

Shedding your ego and putting on the image of your salvation.

Slipping past lines of division to speak truth with kindness.

Seeing through manufactured hate that distracts you from the image of God in front of you.

Open your eyes you little ones! Wake up from your sleepiness!

Look beyond the black mirror of your soul and see a world that shines with beauty and meaning and purpose. Awaken to a hidden life that demands your careful attention for an unmerited reward of a cup overflowing with goodness and mercy. Wash away the specks of self-righteousness and bitter delusion clouding your vision and find a community of peace waiting where violent letters once stood.

The whole word has forgotten God, but even the smallest light can hold back the darkness.

When will you be willing strike the match and let the flame of your brief life light a candle that will burn for eternity?

Oh that you would burn brightly.
